Bunkers Open Every Sunday

In the 1970's the volunteers of the local charity 'Channel Islands Occupation Society' (CIOS) started restoring and opening up this large German Naval Gun Battery and digging out its buried bunkers. This volunteer work has continued and now in 2026 the site has 11 bunkers open weekly to the public, multiple walking trails as well as recovered artillery guns, anti-landing obstacles & WW2 vehicles on exterior display. Now in partnership with the non-profit Jersey War Tours, the joint volunteer teams aim is to have the bunkers open weekly all year round. There is an entry fee of £8 for non members to visit the interior of the bunkers, which is invested back into the societies continued maintenance & restoration work. Children are free but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The outdoor displays and walking trails are looked after by our volunteers and these areas are accessible all year for free. It is worth noting that the money raised from tickets and donations help us to open more often, help us preserve the WW2 history and will enable us to open more of the buried bunkers on Jersey. The Lothringen Naval Battery had a mix of 13 Artillery & Anti-Aircraft Guns, bunkers & German fortifications. It is located on the South of Jersey overlooking St Helier. It was engaged in multiple battles between 1941 till its surrender in 1945. The Batterie was 25 miles from Normandy, 35 miles from Britany, 33 miles from the American Paratrooper Landing Zones & 47 Miles from the Landing beaches. The battery became strategically positioned and formed a crucial part of the German defences of Jersey after the Allied invasion of France. A visit to the site perfectly complements the history of the Allied invasion of Normandy as well as the liberation of France and the Channel Islands. It will also help you appreciate what the Third Reich was able to create with slave labor, captured weapons & lots of concrete.

The Command Bunker, MP-1 Tower and supporting bunkers are open every Sunday from 10am

Accessibility; Due to the Bunker designs you must be physically fit and able to walk unaided on rough and uneven terrain, there are steep stairs and other challenging factors.

This is a charity site maintained by volunteers and thanks to their hard work the site has been open to the public for the past 49 years! The CIOS is registered as Charity 49 and JWT is registered as Non-Profit Organisation NPO1207 with the JFSC
Visiting WW2 bunkers and fortifications involves inherent risks, including trip hazards, low ceilings, and steep stairs. Sites are often damp, unlit, and uneven, requiring sturdy footwear and caution. Visitors enter at their own risk.
The Command Bunker Museum can open to groups & private tours outside of open days, subject to volunteer availability. Please contact us.
Opening Dates & Times
During August & September most bunkers at the battery will be open on Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:00 pm)
From October to February the Command Bunker (museum) and the MP1 Tower at the battery will be open on Sundays from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm (last entry at 2:30 pm)
We will be closed on Sunday October the 25th 2026

The CIOS (Channel Islands Occupation Society) is a voluntary charity dedicated to protecting and preserving all aspects of the Island’s unique Second World War heritage. We boast some of the best-preserved fortifications today that originally formed and defended part of Hitler’s “Atlantikwall”, which stretched from inside the arctic circle of northern Norway to the French/Spanish border, with about 10% of the fortifications constructed found in the Channel Islands! Thanks to the voluntary work of the CIOS, now spanning over 50 years, these structures attract both experts and those with a general interest in the Occupation with displays including first-hand accounts of soldiers of both sides, the forced labours used to build the fortifications through to civilian life and the Allied battles that took place to help Liberate Europe and remember those who sacrificed their lives for this goal.
Jersey War Tours is a not-for-profit, research and education organisation dedicated to documenting, monitoring, and preserving second-world war heritage. We specialise in digital visualisation and aim to provide digital data, 3D digitisation, photography, stories and much more to the public via this website and social media channels. We offer you the chance to come visit some of the fantastic WW2 sites we open on the weekends, evenings and some holidays. JWT is a voluntary organisation founded by Phil and Kimberley who are passionate about sharing this work and providing you with an experience you will never forget.
The sites we use are in the hands of the Channel Island Occupation Society (CIOS), who are our chosen charity and in 2025 we created a partnership agreement. We will be supporting them to help open more bunkers and continue to raise funds for the ongoing WW2 maintenance and preservation work.
